1.1. Be concise
1.1.1. Tell me a little about yourself?
I‘ve always loved computer, so I suppose it’s natural that I became a software engineer. I’ve worked as a Java Web backend developer in a variety of roles and companies, like Alibaba, Thunder Network. Both of them are listed on NASDAQ.
I’ve worked on many projects during my 8 years of development experiences. So it’s very easy for me to get used to a new industry and project.
And now I am ready for a new challenge.
1.1.2. Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I don’t know exactly, but the most important thing is that I continue to learn and grow in my software engineer career. I’m the kind of person who needs challenge to stay focused. I have worked at 5 companies, so I think in the next five years I will settle in my next company. I will dig deeper in one industry and be more skilled of software development.
1.1.3. How did you hear about the position?
I heard this position from the headhunter, Miranda.
1.2. Signposting language
1.2.1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Firstly, I love learning. For example, I could do the secondary development on new projects with new developing languages in a very short time. Even though I barely had any experience of them.
Secondly, I am very open to share and good at working with other people. I shared lots of technologies during my last job. I always tried to create a good atmosphere, like sharing some funny stories in my life.
On the other hand, I suppose I can not handle too many things at the same time. Because I am the kind of person who thinks too much before actually doing things. I need time to think carefully and focus on the main goal. Then I can try my best to find the best solution.
Coming back to strengths, I love to challenge my limits and I am always eager to learn and very open to share, so I think I can get used to a new environment in a very short time. Like my English is temporarily limited, I believe I can master it in no time.
1.2.2. What is your leadership style?
First of all, I’m quite a person who likes to train my colleagues.
For instance, if my team has a project or a requirement from project team, I will try to analyze and assign them to the right colleagues. I will try to explain to them and guide them to finish the task quicker and better.
I am also very approachable, in that I make sure my colleagues know they can come to me with problems or questions at any time.
Finally, I like to lead from the front. That means that if everyone’s working late to meet a deadline, I make sure I’m there with them and I will try to help them.
1.3. STAR method
1.3.1. Tell me about time you dealt with a challenging situation at work.
e.g. Can you tell me about a time when you demonstrated…?
Once, on a Friday, my manager told me that our company bought a C++ project from another company. And told me that firstly we need to do a secondary development on this project. When this project goes online successfully and runs stably. We need to refactor this with Java. Because it’s hard to hire a qualified C++ developer.
Util then, I barely had any experience of C++. After I receive this task then I divided this task into two parts.
The first one is to learn the architecture and business logic of this project. The second one is the learn some basic knowledge of C++.
I tried to learn the architecture and business logic during the working hours. Because I need the help from the seller company while they are working as well.
And during my spare time, like I said, I love learning technologies, I learned the basic knowledge of C++.
Finally, under my reasonable arrangement, the job was finished amazingly as we expected.
